‘Furious’ Sky News bosses have told presenter Kay Burley to take extended leave, and could keep her off the air until next year, after she admitted breaking coronavirus rules, according to reports.
Bosses hooked the Sky News presenter at the 11th hour last night, ahead of her usual morning slot, after she admitted ‘inadvertently’ breaching Tier 2 restrictions while celebrating her 60th birthday over the weekend.
The veteran journalist was replaced by presenter Sarah Hewson on her normal 7am to 10am slot.
Sky News chiefs also last night announced they had launched an internal investigation into her behaviour.
But reports now suggest that Ms Burley could face a longer spell on the sidelines while they probe the incident.
A source told the paper: ‘The Sky News bosses were absolutely furious at Kay.

‘She should know better and they told her as such.
They’ve told her she’s off-air for the foreseeable. It looks like it will be 2021 before she’s back.’
Ms Burley did not appear on air to host her TV show this morning after admitting to breaking coronavirus rules.
The 59-year-old presenter’s absence from her usual morning slot follows her apology for her ‘error of judgment’.
Ms Burley yesterday admitted she ‘inadvertently broke the rules’ while celebrating her upcoming 60th birthday over the weekend.
Sky News has launched an internal probe into her conduct after she said she spent Saturday night at a ‘Covid-compliant restaurant’ in London but admitted to flouting Tier 2 restrictions by using a toilet in another venue while waiting for a taxi home at 11pm.
She apologised on Twitter last night after reported a ‘group of ten’ including Sky’s political editor Beth Rigby, Inzamam Rashid and สล็อต Sam Washington celebrated Ms Burley’s 60th at private members’ club Century Club in Soho.
